Saint Marcouf Islands
Discover the Saint-Marcouf archipelago, located close to Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue's shoreline. Made up of two islands: 'Ile du Large' and 'Ile de Terre', the latter is now a bird sanctuary and therefore access is forbidden, but you can see the islands off the bay of Saint-Vaast, and from the beaches of Morsalines, Quinéville and Utah.
Ile du Large is home to an imposing 53 meter diameter fort on two casemate levels with a shooting platform. The neighbouring island of 'Terre' is also fortified. The defences date to the second half of the 19th century.
