The Airborne Museum at Sainte-Mère-Eglise
Visit the Airborne Museum at Sainte Mère Eglise in the Manche region. This commemorative museum tells us about the life of the American parachutists during the Second World War.
Established in 1964, the Airborne Museum is located in the centre of Sainte-Mère-Eglise, a small town that became famous around the world with parachutist John Steele hanging on his belfry. Entirely dedicated to the paratroopers of the 82nd and 101st airborne divisions who parachuted into Normandy during Operation Neptune on the night of June 5 to 6, 1944, the museum houses a rich collection of period objects and shows a 20 minute film made with archive footage.
During your visit, you can marvel at a WACO glider and many glass cabinets filled with period documents including witness accounts, weapons, ammunition, equipment from a Douglas C-47 plane and many mannequins in vintage outfits.
